Overview
Buster's Slack integration makes it easy to request data in Slack, receive alerts when Buster makes key assumptions, and push quick changes to your dbt repository.
You must have a Buster account to use the Slack integration.
How it works
Request data from Slack by using the "@Buster", followed by your request. Files and context from the root message will be included as context for Buster. Buster will spend a minute or two fulfilling your request, then return the answer directly in Slack.
Data teams are also able to receive alerts directly in Slack. Whenever Buster is fulfilling a user request and must make assumptions due to missing documentation (e.g., undefined metrics or filters), these assumptions are flagged sent as Slack alerts to the data team. Data team members can reply directly in Slack (e.g., "@Buster, calculate it this way") and Buster will interpret the feedback, identify where to update the dbt docs, and generate a pull request with the relevant documentation updates.
This feedback loop allows the data team to continuously enhance documentation with minimal effort, improving the AI analyst's reliability over time.
Configure
Buster admins can configure this integration in Settings. Completing this step enables requesting data directly from Slack and selecting a channel for documentation alerts.
